Things To Do This Summer In Oakville

Summer is here, and for the adults, that means long days, warm nights, and maybe a little vacation time. For families, it means school’s out, and there’s an opportunity to go on that big family trip, as well as spend some time together right here in Oakville.

But what can you actually do in Oakville during the summer? If you plan ahead of time, there are plenty of activities and events that people of all ages can enjoy.

Sing Along at TD Songs of Summer Festival

Most of us love music, and there are plenty of places to take in live performances. In Oakville, you don’t even have to leave the city for a concert! The TD Songs of Summer Festival takes place August 10th to 11th for a weekend of live performances in a variety of different genres. The events take place in downtown Oakville. It’s a free-for-all for local and international music talent.

Experience Art in the Park

Cultural experiences aren’t just good for you, they can be fun, and if you’re an art lover and want to know what to do in Oakville during the summer, save the date for August 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for Art in the Park. This event takes paintings, statues, and other installations out of the gallery and puts them in the great outdoors.

Like many events in Oakville, this takes place at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park and includes art, artists, and opportunities for families to make works of their own!

Oakville Park

Explore Parks

It’s easy and fun to do anytime during the summer, and one of the few activities where you can drop everything and go is a walk through a beautiful green space. Oakville has plenty of parks to explore with different features, so whether you want to get back to nature and see some forest or need a place for the kids and the dog to run free, there’s something out there.

Lion’s Valley Park, for example, has trees, a creek, and many scenic picnic spots, all while being in the heart of the city. If you want something a bit closer to other amenities, Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park has great lakeside views, as well as shops, restaurants, and other boardwalk attractions.

Hit the Trails

For people who want to get the literal lay of the land, there are plenty of trails for the more exploratory or fitness-minded individuals to walk. While it’s possible to go it alone in locations like Avonhead Ridge Trail, if you’re looking for a bit more guidance, some guided trail experiences are also available. These walks are quite manageable at about 1.5 km long. Find the time and location that works for you, and get out there!
